Greetings 2.0
February 1995
Welcome to Greetings 2.0 for Windows 95 and Windows NT.
This file contains information designed to help you get the most
out of the Greetings program. You'll find details on:
* Setup/Installation Problems
* New Features
* Printing
* Important Note for Canon Bubble Jet Printers
* Tips for Hewlett Packard Deskjet Printers
* GIF/TIF Graphic Files
* Display Device Problems
---------------------------
SETUP/INSTALLATION PROBLEMS
---------------------------
If when you run the Greetings setup program, you receive
an INTERNAL ERROR message, this indicates that you do not have
enough free hard drive space to open the SETUP program. Free
up some hard drive space and re-run the setup program again.
------------
NEW FEATURES
------------
* Graphical interface allows you to select the features and
options you want using easy-to-identify pictures and icons.
* Import text from a text file for easy document creation.
* Onscreen Navigator lets you easily move around your greeting
card documents.
* Guideline tools let you insert visual "markers" for lining up
items. They are also handy for use with pre-printed designer
paper to identify the areas where you want to insert
information.
* Onscreen printer margins so you can see the "no print zone"
for your current printer.
* In addition to previously supported documents, the program now
lets you create: 1-fold greeting cards (for unique projects
like wedding programs), Tall and Wide banners, and multiple
page Posters.
* Calendar feature lets you insert a calendar into any document,
or stretch the calendar over one or more pages. Great for
inserting pictures and text on various days to mark important
events.
* Print Preview to view your documents as they will print.

PRINTING
--------
If you encounter printing problems with Greetings 2.0, one
logical place to check is to make sure you have the latest
printer driver for your printer. You can contact your printer
manufacturer to find out if you have the latest driver
and/or obtain a new version if one is available.
To test if you need an updated printer driver for any reason,
1. Open or create a document (like a greeting card). Insert
one graphic and some text on the front, back, and both
inside panes.
2. After the document opens, select Print from the File menu.
3. On the Print dialog that opens, click OK to send the document
to your printer. A status dialog should appear indicating that
the document is printing.
Possible signs that you need an updated printer driver include:
* Nothing happens when you select Print on the File menu, or
after you select OK on the Print dialog.
* The print job is sent to the printer, but nothing prints on
the page.
* Graphics print fine, but text does not print (or vice versa).
To obtain an updated printer driver, you should contact your
printer manufacturer. Your printer documentation should have a
phone number and instructions on how to contact them (usually
this information is located in the very front or very back of
the printer manual). The printer manufacturer can tell you what
the latest driver is and send you an updated driver, if needed.
Make sure you are using the Windows 95 or NT version of the
printer driver for your printer (or at least a similar
one). For example, if you install Windows 95 over Windows 3.1,
don't assume you can use your Windows 3.1 printer drivers as
they most likely will NOT work. See your Windows 95 User's Guide
(or online help) for details on adding printers. If you are using
a Windows 95 or NT driver and are still having problems, you can
also check the printer manufacturer to see if there is an updated
driver available.
As always, you can contact Parsons Technology if you have printing
or any other technical problems by calling our Technical Support
staff at (319) 395-7314. They will be happy to assist you.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR CANON BUBBLE JET PRINTERS
-------------------------------------------
If you're printing to a Canon Bubble Jet COLOR printer note
that you MUST use the "Screen-Matched Color" print option
(if available) in the Canon Printer Setup when printing
your Greetings documents. If you are trying to print
a Greetings document to a Canon color Bubble Jet printer
and have problems with the Greetings program locking
up or crashing while printing, that indicates that
you may not be using the "Screen-Matched Color" setting.
Also be sure you are using the latest drivers.
If you are using Windows 95, Canon has updated drivers
available for this operating system as well. All their
Bubble Jet printer drivers have been updated to version 3.1.
Contact Canon or check the Canon Support forum on CompuServe
(GO CANON) if you need to obtain updated printer drivers.
-----------------------------------------
TIPS FOR HEWLETT PACKARD DESKJET PRINTERS
-----------------------------------------
If you're printing to an HP DeskJet 500 color printer
from Windows 95, use the driver provided with that operating
system (PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL THE WINDOWS 95 DRIVER
AND DO NOT TRY TO USE YOUR DRIVERS/SOFTWARE FROM WINDOWS 3.1).
If you have an HP 660C or 600 deskjet printer and are using
Windows 95, drivers specifically designed for these printers
are available from Hewlett Packard. Please contact HP or
check the HP Peripherals Forum on CompuServe
(GO HPPERIPHERALS) to obtain these drivers.
---------------------
GIF/TIF Graphic Files
---------------------
Due to licensing restrictions, Greetings no longer supports
GIF files or TIF files compressed with Lempel-Ziff-Welch (LZW)
compression algorithm. Greetings 2.0 still reads TIF files
that do not use this type of compression.
-----------------------
DISPLAY DEVICE PROBLEMS
-----------------------
Every computer system uses a display driver to display the images
in your Windows operating system. This is called a display device.
There are many different kinds of display devices available and
Greetings has been tested with many common display devices.
If for some reason, the program does not seem to display properly
when you start the program, you may want to switch to running your
machine in standard VGA mode. This is a generic display driver
that comes with all versions of the Windows operating system and
many times corrects any display device problems you may have.
